Rickie Lee Jones with Bob Dylan in Israel?

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Something is happenin’ here but you don’t know what it is, do you, Ms. Jones? (Doesn’t have quite the same ring to it, I know.)

It’s being reported that Rickie Lee Jones will “join” Bob Dylan at his concert in Tel Aviv, Israel on June 20th.

During the Ramat Gan concert, she is expected to join Dylan’s band and perform some of his famous songs with him, and perhaps even some of her own.

That sounds distinctly odd—not standard practice for Dylan at all—but who knows? It seems to me more likely that the news people are getting it wrong, as is their wont, and she’ll actually be playing as a support act. They also suggest that “other famous artists may join the big night.” The same article indicates that many tickets are still available for the concert, which seems surprising, although just checking now I see that he’s playing a stadium (Ramat Gan) with a capacity of over 40,000, so maybe it’s not so surprising. Adds credence to the idea that they are lengthening the bill to attract more ticket-buyers.

I was actually a pretty big Rickie Lee Jones fan for awhile in my younger days, but I don’t know what happened. I think maybe she got a little too intellectual for me. But I can dig what she does on some level. Hearing her sing with Dylan would be interesting, but then hearing just about anybody sing with Dylan would be interesting, although not necessarily pleasurable. I’m staying alive to hear Bob duet with Jerry Lee Lewis on something. “Amazing Grace” would be a good choice of song, I’d say.
