The Republican “Thanksgiving Family Forum” debate in Iowa

Having watched it as it aired today online beginning at 5 p.m. Eastern Time, it is not difficult to make the following call: The GOP “Thanksgiving Family Forum” from Iowa, moderated by Frank Luntz, was far and away the most adult, civilized and intelligent debate of this election season so far. And, indeed, it was the most mature discussion of its kind of any election season that yours truly has had either the good or bad luck to live through.

It seems that the recorded version of the entire event is already online, and if you go to this link, the actual debate (versus the lead-up to it) begins at about the 37 minute mark. The entire discussion with the candidates was just over two hours long. Participating were Ron Paul, Rick Perry, Michele Bachmann, Rick Santorum, Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich.

I was going to offer some opinions as to who did themselves the most good here, but on second thoughts I’ll hold back on that for now. The truth is that they all did themselves some good. I sincerely recommend watching it in full.
