Pat Boone says Obama’s birth certificate was Photo-shopped

I just had to bite at this, especially after my long quasi-defense of Tony Bennett. Pat Boone, who is a member of the Tea Party of Beverly Hills, California, maintains regarding Barack Obama’s birth records that:

I was in Kenya about a year and a half ago and everybody said, “you know he was born here.” Why else would he be hiding all his records? He is spending millions of dollars so we do not have his records. And experts have already looked at and been able to verify that this long form document is a fraud.

But the media ignores it … a total fraud. A photo-shopped fraud.

He also seems to believe Obama is really a Muslim: “Growing up in Indonesia, he used to read the Koran in Arabic … so that was instilled in him as a young boy … he hasn’t celebrated any Christian holidays in the White House, but he does Ramadan.” And there’s more in the San Francisco Chronicle, and in the video clip embedded here. He also likes Michele Bachmann.

Well, bless Pat Boone’s heart. It’s kind of the opposite of the Tony Bennett situation with me. In Pat’s case, I can’t say I’m a big fan of his music … but boy is he intelligent!

That said, I’ve never been big into Obama’s birth certificate thing. I always felt it was a blind alley and that it has wasted the energies of some good people. And as for Obama being a Muslim … I can’t say I buy that. What bothers me about Obama and religion is the opportunistic way he seems to be invoking Christianity these days. As it was opportunistic in a different way for him to sit in the Reverend Jeremiah Wright’s church in Chicago for twenty years and listen to those vile sermons. I can’t say whether he believed what Rev. Wright preached, or what he believes now, but like a lot of people I haven’t found that his references to Christianity ring true.

So, I guess I don’t really agree with Pat Boone after all, but there’s a far cry between saying some dubious things about the president—who after all signed-up for this kind of thing—and saying that the three thousand people who were massacred on September 11th brought it on themselves.

In fairness, since George W. Bush had Tony Bennett over to the White House even though Antonio has always been a dedicated liberal wacko, the least Obama can do is have Pat Boone over now. Maybe then down the road Pat can claim that Barack secretly whispered in his ear, “You know, actually I was born in Kenya and I’m a Muslim,” the same way Dubya told Tony that the war in Iraq was “a mistake.”

Count it as one of the dwindling ways in which President Obama could impress me.

(And in the meantime, can anyone tell me what Pat Boone’s moniker on Free Republic is?)
